Food Shelf Questions:

Can a person with disabilities go to Senior Food Shelf if they are under 60 years old?

No, only individuals 60 years old and older can utilize Senior Food Shelf.

What are your hours? How often can I visit the food shelf?

Monday – Friday 10am – Noon. Special Senior hour Friday 2pm-3pm. Generally, one visit per month. We also have food accessible daily during lobby hours.

Am I over income?

We have no income guidelines for food access. We do, however, ask income question for necessary data collection.

May I shop for someone else?

Yes, with a signed letter giving permission and verification via phone with the person(s) you are shopping for.

What kinds of food do you have?

We operate as a small market, offering a variety of items from fresh produce, baked goods and dairy to frozen meats and shelf stable items that include canned fruits and vegetables, grains and cereals, juices and mixes.

What if I work during food shelf hours?

If your job makes it impossible for you to access the food shelf during our scheduled hours you may call and request an appointment time.

What age do I have to be to access the Senior Food Shelf?

60+ years of experience required.

Economic Development Questions:

How can I fix my credit report?

We have a Credit Builder program here at BROC Community Action that will work with you to address any issues on your credit reports. The first step is to send for your credit report and check for any errors and make sure that what is on the report is correct. If not there is a process to dispute and make corrections. The next step is to address any trades in collections. There are a few ways to work on this. The last step is to create activity of borrowing and paying back to increase your score.

Where do I find out how to buy a house?

We provide workshops to inform you on what steps are needed to secure a mortgage to purchase a home from improving your credit score and saving to paying down debt. We also can help you determine the mortgage providers that may be the best for you to apply to as well as what to look for in selecting a house.

How long does it take to create a business plan?

The average time is 3-6 months from the initial meeting to the business opening but it depends upon the experience level of the business owner.

Weatherization Questions:

What are the income guidelines to be eligible for Weatherization?

Every situation is different. Please DO NOT self-determine, you may exclude yourself some something you are eligible for. There are certain incomes that are not counted for Weatherization income eligibility. Call Kelly at 802.665.1748 and she will help you with eligibility determination.

If my home has been weatherized in the past, am I eligible to have it done again?

Yes. We can revisit a previously weatherized dwelling if it has been at least 15 years since it was weatherized.

How long will it take for the work to start once I am determined eligible?

This can be anywhere from 6 to 12 months. This is a free program, so it has a waitlist.

Housing/Fuel/Utilities Questions:

How many times can I get fuel through the winter season?

At least once, depending on funding customers may receive additional assists.

How long does Crisis Fuel season last?

Crisis Fuel season starts the last Monday in November and goes until Friday April 9, 2021 for bulk fuels. Metered fuels continue until April 30, 2021.
